Factory work may seem basic, but getting things done on time can be very complicated. For instance, there are trillions upon trillions of possible ways to sequence 10 identical operations through five machines.
That makes the planning and scheduling of manufacturing operations extremely difficult. It gets even tougher when you consider factors like machine breakdowns, supply shortages and other sudden problems that wreck the best-laid production plans.
CSC Europe's Serge Bourgeois, Etienne Momont and Jean-Paul Van Vaerenbergh have made manufacturing much easier with a scheduling system called Interactive Cell Integrated Management (ICIM).
